Bringing New Perspectives to Bathroom Design Through Cross-Industry Collaboration

In 2020, the Small and Medium Enterprise Administration of Taiwan's Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA) initiated the "Made in Taiwan" Cross-Industry Genesis Project, bringing together professionals from different creative and industrial fields to explore new possibilities for product development and design.
Organized through the collaboration of Kuan-ju Interior Design, JUSTIME, Micro Marco, and Aesthetic Tribes, the initiative invited 19 professional interior designers from across Taiwan to contribute new perspectives to the development of bathroom accessories.
01 / CROSS-INDUSTRY COLLABORATION
Reimagining Bathroom Accessories Through Design
The project encouraged designers from different backgrounds to exchange ideas, challenge conventional approaches, and explore innovative concepts for bathroom accessories. By combining design expertise with manufacturing knowledge, the collaboration sought to create fresh perspectives on everyday bathroom products.
The participating designers presented their creative works to the public at the 2020 Taipei Building Show in December 2020, offering visitors an opportunity to experience the outcomes of this cross-industry collaboration.

Continuing the Conversation at Taipei Artist Village
As the exhibition schedule offered limited time for each designer to share the thinking behind their work, a follow-up forum was held at Taipei Artist Village in April 2021, before the escalation of Taiwan's domestic COVID-19 outbreak.
The forum provided a setting for further dialogue on originality, personal expression, and the importance of developing a distinctive design identity.

JUSTIME Chairman Chinger Jin-ji Pan emphasized that designers should remain true to their own perspectives and give each product a unique character that distinguishes it from others.

Strengthening Taiwan's Creative Capabilities
The collaboration also highlighted the importance of encouraging design professionals to work beyond traditional industry boundaries, bringing new creative thinking into product development and manufacturing.
INDUSTRY INSIGHT
"Taiwan has long demonstrated internationally competitive capabilities in branding and design."
Xiang-yuan Liang of the China Productivity Center (CPC) expressed the hope that more designers would participate in cross-industry collaboration. With support from government initiatives, greater exploration of diverse applications could further strengthen Taiwan's design capabilities and creative influence.
